Dr. Ketul Joshi

Dr. Ketul Joshi is an award winning optometrist, with more than 14 years of experience in the optometric field. Among his many awards, Dr. Joshi was the proud recipient of the 2009 Santa Clara County Optometric Society Young Optometrist of the Year Award, and the 2010 California Optometric Association Young Optometrist of the Year Award, as well as many others. He earned his B.Sc., with distinction, from University of Alberta, and made the Dean’s List while earning his Doctor of Optometry from University of Missouri, St. Louis College of Optometry.

Dr. Joshi specializes in General Optometry, Contact Lenses, Dry Eye and Computer Vision Syndrome, and is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and the Alameda Contra Costa Optometric Society. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Santa Clara County Optometric Society.

As a child, Dr. Joshi grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and enjoyed skiing and playing hockey in the winter and playing basketball in the summer. He also enjoyed spending time hiking in the Rockies when possible, and attending the many festivals that the city had to offer during the year. He was always interested in biology and specifically the visual system and how the eyes impact our perception of the world around us.

Dr. Joshi is married with 2 children, a 12yr old girl and 9yr old boy. In his spare time he enjoys running and staying active. He has participated in many 10K and half marathons as well as completing a Spartan Trifecta.

Dr. Joan Jen

Dr. Joan Jen possesses a B.Sc. in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, with an emphasis on Physiology from the University of CA, Davis and a Doctor of Optometry from University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Jen has been in practice for 10 years, and specializes in LASIK co-management.

She grew up in the Bay Area and is an avid sports fan, especially for football and fantasy football, skiing and running. She also enjoys traveling and is a big animal lover and advocate.

Mitch Nagtalon

Mitch Nagtalon, ABOC, started his optical career in the early 90’s as an optometric assistant. With a strong medical background and passion for optics, he has worked with multipl pediatric, retinal, general ophthalmology and optometry clinics in the past 20 years. Certified by the American Board of Opticianry, he has worked closely with labs and manufacturers like Oakley to push the boundaries of prescription lens technology, giving patients more options. Filipino native, Mitch loves cooking, the outdoors, video games, the 80’s, plays the guitar and keyboard and traveling with his wife Anna and son Timothy.


New York born and cultivated in California Shawn has always been an avid reader and student of science, history, and the written word. Shawn began working as an Optician in the spring of 2011. His love of learning and commitment to service found a home in Optical. Working as an optician and office manager Shawn thrived on being of service; assisting patients with all thier vison needs. Transitioning from corporate offices to family practice has given him the opportunity to learn and be of service to the communities he lives in. As Shawn continues his studies in optics he is also an historical reenactor who enjoys Italian Renaissance and Dickensian London. Shawn’s love of books is only overshadowed by his love for his wife.


Sara studied psychology at Fresno State and is continuing her education at Las Positas College. She has a wide background of professional experience, but has always possessed a strong interest in the medical field and is excited to expand her knowledge in the optical world.

Sara is a huge Bay Area sports fan, especially when it comes to baseball and football. She also plays softball, is an avid bowler, and loves spending time with her rescue dog, Cooper.


Carleen is an aspiring optometrist from Oakland, CA. She received her undergraduate degree from Cal State Long Beach in Health Science. Currently, she is taking classes at Merritt College to fulfill prerequisite requirements for optometry school. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her two dogs, playing the piano, reading, writing, and painting.
